Your switchboard is the heart of your home's electrical system. Every circuit runs through it, and it is the first line of defence when something goes wrong. If your home still has an old board with ceramic fuses, or a board with no safety switches, an upgrade is one of the best safety improvements you can make.
We upgrade switchboards across Torquay, Geelong, the Surf Coast and the Bellarine Peninsula. A typical upgrade replaces old fuses with circuit breakers and safety switches, tidies up the wiring behind the board, and makes sure the board has room for the way you live now.
Signs your board is due for an upgrade:
- Ceramic or rewirable fuses instead of switches
- No safety switches on power and light circuits
- Fuses that blow or breakers that trip when you run a few appliances at once
- A warm board, a buzzing sound or a burning smell near the board
- Flickering lights when appliances turn on
- You are adding a big new load such as air conditioning, an induction cooktop or an electric vehicle charger
Safety switches matter because they cut the power in a fraction of a second when electricity leaks from a circuit, for example when a damaged lead or a faulty appliance would otherwise give someone a shock. New homes have needed them for decades, but plenty of older homes around Geelong and the Surf Coast still do not have them on every circuit. We can check yours and tell you exactly where you stand.
