Mikro Coffee Roasters is a small batch specialty coffee roaster based right here in Torquay. Established in 2014, the business originally ran its roasting division out of Mount Gambier in South Australia, but the long haul drives eventually proved too much of a logistical headache. Mikro now operates entirely from Torquay, running both the roastery and the Mikro coffee kiosk in the surf shop precinct, and the awards have followed. The business has won more than 25 medals at the Australian International Coffee Awards.
The work we did
Quay Electrical helped Mikro with a full electrical fit-out of their premises, including:
- A complete rewire of the shop, front and back of house, including amenities
- A new three-phase supply, which was critical for the roasting equipment
- Power for all the front of house equipment, including the coffee machines
- Three-phase power, data and control wiring for the roaster itself
- An electric vehicle charger installation
The tricky part of the job was upgrading the mains power without affecting the neighbouring tenants, who needed to keep trading while we worked. Careful planning got it done, the job came in on budget, and the finished work keeps the shop powered while staying out of sight of Mikro’s carefully kept aesthetic.
