Smoke alarms are the one piece of electrical equipment in your home that you hope never has a job to do. When they are needed, they need to work, and that comes down to having the right alarms in the right spots, wired properly and replaced before they get too old.
We install and replace smoke alarms across Torquay, Geelong, the Surf Coast and the Bellarine Peninsula:
- Hardwired 240 volt alarms with battery backup
- Interconnected alarms, so when one sounds they all sound
- Replacement of alarms that have passed their ten year life
- Advice on the right placement for bedrooms, hallways and multi storey homes
Alarms do not last forever. The sensors degrade, and manufacturers give them a service life of about ten years. If you cannot remember when yours were installed, check the date stamped on the back, and if there is no date, they are almost certainly due.
Placement matters as much as the alarm itself. Alarms belong on ceilings away from corners and away from kitchens and bathrooms where steam and cooking set off nuisance alarms. In larger homes, interconnected alarms make a real difference because a fire in the garage will wake someone asleep at the other end of the house.
When one alarm sounds, they should all sound. That is what gets a sleeping family out early.
Our guide to smoke alarms covers alarm types, testing and maintenance in more detail. To have your alarms checked, replaced or added to, call us or send through a request.
